Guadeloupe is a French island in the middle of the Caribbean sea. Yes, you read it correctly: it’s french. What does it mean? It means you can travel there with your ID, have not too expensive direct flights from Paris, pay with euros, use your mobile without expensive roaming plans. And of course, speak french.
The island has a peculiar butterfly shape, where the left wing is named Haute Terre (High land), dominated by an active volcano, and the basse terre on the right (low land).
I travelled there in March 2022, being very close to the Equator makes the island weather around 26 (min) and 32 (max) degrees all around the year. However, even if the sun shines almost all the day, super quick and sudden storms can happen multiple times per day, every day.
We decided to stay in a Hotel Le Gosier, one village in Basse Terre, and to visit one different beach for every day of our stay. You will find in this article the pretties ones, together with some travel tips.

Ilet du Gosier
Right in front of the village of le Gosier, there is the typical Jack Sparrow stile island: a lot of palms, shiny beaches full of coral, wild forest in the middle and some indigenous as well (joking, they were just waiters of the only restaurant). You can reach it by boat from a bit aside the main beach in Le Gosier: it will take 5 Euros for a return ticket and around 15 minutes of navigation. Once there, before getting into exploring the island, I suggest you to book in advance a spot in the restaurant, where you could eat a fresh locally fished “Daurade”. Very tasty! Then, if you will be bored by the excessive relax on the beach, you can get in the middle of the island and visit the lighthouse.

Plate Municipale du Gosier
This is the typical beach you want to visit after you wake up with an hungover and you don’t want to travel to some remote parts of the island. That’s a mean beach, but full of bars and typical restaurant. If you are into sports, you can also rent a cayak and explore a bit around. On Thursday afternoons, there will be a local market, where you could taste caraibic food and buy some local craft. Apparently Guadeloupe is very famous for sugar cane and there will be multiple stands where you can observe its juice preparation and then taste it.

Plage de Petit Havre
No major callouts. Just go there if you like iguanas

Sainte Anne
Wanna visit a typical caraibic village? Go to Sainte Anne. You will both find some city vibes and a nice beach. In this occasion we ate for Lunch “Colombo de Poulet” a chicken based dish that takes its name from Cristoforo Colombo (it was him to discover Guadeloupe for the first time, didn’t I tell you before?). My girlfriend didn’t like it at all, I was a bit meh. Worth trying it but I wouldn’t est it again, it’s a chicken IMMERSO NEL BRODO from which you keep extracting vegetables and other unknown guarniture.
